  THE AAABCs of the AAABA

The All American Amateur Baseball Association (pronounced 'Triple A-B-A') is an annual wooden bat national tournament for college-aged players. Sixteen teams compete in the week-long double elimination bracket at ball fields in and around Johnstown, Pennsylvania, centered at the historic Point Stadium downtown. The AAABA is considered one of the top three amateur baseball tournaments in the country.

Teams from Altoona, Zanesville, and Schenectady receive byes into the national tournament for hosting regional competitions and Johnstown receives a bye for being the host city. The remaining teams compete at regionals the first week in August to fill out the 16-team field. The tournament beings on Saturday night with a player's banquet. First round pairings are drawn randomly on Sunday, and the first game is played on Monday morning.

Youse's Maryland Orioles from Baltimore are the five-time defending champions and have won more championships than any other franchise. Entries from Washington, New Orleans, and Johnstown have been consistent finalists in the past decade.

Since 1945, the AAABA has seen hundreds of its players advance to the major leagues, as the tournament draws scouts from all of the major league teams. Even for those who do not advance to the majors, the tournament provides many great memories. The week is also free for competing players, as the Johnstown Oldtimers--the organizers for the event--cover all hotel and meal expenses.

More information and photos from previous tournaments will be posted shortly!
