With Chicago unable to attend the Zanesville regional due to bus problems, and with host Zanesville already guarenteed a berth in the national tournament, it was down to Cleveland and new-comers Toledo to fill the remaining spot in Johnstown. The Michigan Monarchs from Toledo let there be no doubt on the winner of that spot as they mercy-ruled Cleveland 11-1 on the opening day. When Zanesville elimated Cleveland 7-4 the following day, it secured a first-ever appearance by the Toledo franchise in the AAABA National Tournament. Toledo defeated Zanesville twice to finish the regional as championship with a 3-0 record.
