Martella's Pharmacy

Martella's Pharmacy leads 2-0 in Johnstown

- Martella's Pharmacy won 8-2 over defending champion Delweld in the second game of the five-game championship series last night at the Point Stadium. The Pharmicists scored 6 times in the 6th inning. They won the first game 6-4 in 10 innings and are now 1 win away from claiming the season championship and the right to represent Johnstown as the host entry in the national tournament.

The Pharmacists finished the regular season weakly, but are undefeated in five post-season games, including their sweep of the Berkley Hills Renegades. This championship series has been much different than last year's tilt, where Delweld easily swept Martella's and outscored them 23-4 in three games.

The playoffs have been hampered by lighting problems at the Point Stadium and heavy rains. The first game was started on Wednesday but not completed until Thursday, and the second game had to be postponed until Friday. This has resulted in scheduling changes, and now Delweld will have to win three games in two days to defend their title.

The teams meet again today at 4:00pm at Point Stadium with Martella's looking to win the series. If necessary, Game 4 will be on Sunday at 1:00pm and Game on Sunday at 5:00pm. Both teams will advance to the national tournament, with the champion representing Johnstown and the runner-up as Flood City.
