Long Island Astros sweep play-in series

- The Long Island Astros swept both games of a doubleheader on Saturday to defeat the Cutting Edge Diamond Chiefs and advance to the AAABA national tournament as the representative from New York. It is the Astros' second trip to Johnstown and the first returning team for the New York franchise since the Long Island Braves in 1997 and 1999.

As reported on the Astro's website, pitcher Matt Metz led the Astros to an 8-0 shut out win in the first game. Danny Muller opened the scoring in the 2nd with a 2-out single and the Astros added 7 more in the 5th. In the second game, Jared Mancini threw 5 hitless innings and struck-out 9 while the offense continued to click, leading the Astros to another 8-0 victory.

New York was originally scheduled to compete in the Altoona regional next week, but now receive a direct bid to Johnstown since the Lansing, Michigan team has withdrawn.
