Delweld wins Johnstown City League, Playoffs begin Friday

- Defending champion Delweld pulled away from Martella's Pharmacy in the final weeks of the regular season to win the league and qualify for the AAABA national tournament. If Delweld also wins the playoffs, they will be the host franchise for the tournament and the playoff runner-up will qualify as the Flood City entry. If Delweld does not win the playoffs, they will be the Flood City entry and the playoff champions will be the Johnstown entry.

Delweld finished the season 23-12 and will play fourth-place Roxberry Creamery (13-22) in the first round of the playoffs. Second place Martella's (19-16) will play the Berkley Hills Renegades (15-20). Play begins this Friday at 5:30pm with Delweld and Roxberry and continues at 8:00pm with Martella's and Berkley Hills. All games will be at the Point Stadium. All series are best-of-5.

Martella's won their season series against the Renegades 6-3. They outscored the Renegades 57-28 including 2 mercy-rule games and 2 shut-outs. However, the Renegades won 2 of the last 3 games against the Pharmacists.

Delweld won their season series against Roxberry 7-2 while outscoring the Creamery 70-32. Delweld posted 3 shutouts and currently have not allowed a run to Roxberry in their past 14 innings.
